This week was Kylies funeral. The laying to rest of a free spirit whirlwind that blazed through the street until the very end. Kyle was a pole dancing, cider drinking, speed taking cheat. But with a heart of gold. Yes she gave away her child to her sister, yes she abandoned them while she ran off with her ex and yes she had it away with her husband’s brother, but it was the underdog in her that we loved.
Born and raised on the Wythenshawe estate, things we never going to be easy for Kylie. But that’s what made her turn around so great. She was born into the every expanding circle of welfare dependence, substance abuse and zero prospects. But where there’s a will there’s a way and with the help of her slightly psychotic husband David, she turned her life around and in the end, had everything she ever wanted.
On Monday 1st August, she was laid to rest with her son Max leading the eulogy. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
But it isn’t Kylies funeral or her death that I want to focus on.
Its Macca.
Macca is a rouge, a law amongst himself and a well-respected member of The Dog & Gun gang.
Once upon a time he was simply seen as one of Callums cronies, a worthless side kick. However I am now sensing that with Callum out the picture, Macca is beginning to make serious moves down Wythenshawe. Not only does he have the reputation, but with Clayton being in Police custody, he has motive.
What lays ahead for Macca? Clearly not the sort of man to stay out of trouble and he has already accosted Gemma in the alley behind the Rovers.
One thing is for sure, if Macca is able to manoeuvre himself up the hierarchy of The Dog & Gun squad, he will be capable of launching a serious amount of terror upon the already vulnerable cobbles of Coronation Street.
With Jason, Lloyd and Peter out the way and Kev snowed under in call outs, Macca may sense that with the male presence lower than usual, now is the time to seize upon his enemy.
Gemma will clearly be very high on his hit list after giving a police statement which lead to the arrest of Clayton for the murder of Kylie, but there are others. David is an obvious target, then there’s Craigy, Craigy leapt to Gemmas defence last night and that is something Macca won’t forget in a hurry.
What about Todd? The brother of Jason who was attacked by Callum, his mentor. Maybe Macca wants to finish the job.
So how well prepared for such an attack is the street? I have already written who is off the scene, but who is there to defend? Well Steve is there and we all know about his capability, but is currently in the middle of a domestic crisis and maybe is doesn’t quite have his eye on the game. The same could be said of Phelan as he is currently trying desperately to hold the Grimshaws together, looking after Eileen, keeping and eye on Todd and running the yard.
The only real defence at present would be Tim and Dev. Of course these two are big hitters and the rest of the street will surely feel safe with them, but with his ever extending round, Tim can anywhere in the Greater Manchester area at any given time, so he isn’t guaranteed to be around. Whilst Dev, he runs a city wide business empire and is often down the golf course brokering trade deals with the Manchester elite.
It may be too early to panic, but the view from Rosamund Street is that Macca is a man on the up, a man on edge and more importantly a man on the loose.
